Great book

If you want to understand the practice of Asatru this book as well as the first volume are where you want to begin. I read a bunch of other books on Asatru before reading Our Troth. I would recommend skipping to Out Troth.

I just want to make a comment on that Pedophile review. The guys off his rocker. But don't just take my word for it, buy the book and decide for yourself. I could see pedophiles being attracted to Christianity because the religion is full of patriarchal authorities that can easily abuse the trust placed in them to commit crimes. Asatru is not setup in this manner and so they would not benefit from coming to Asatru. There is no acceptance of pedophilia in Asatru. Members of this faith also have a more severe outlook on betrayal than Christianity.

If you have acquainted yourself with the lore, the gods, the Nine Realms, etc. but don't know where to go from there, "Living the Troth" is a good resource for developing practice. It discusses major heathen rites, rituals and holy tides in detail.

A lot of the information is geared towards developing group practice but even if you are solitary, the information will still be useful to you. And if you are so inclined, "Living the Troth" gives you the essential information needed for organizing your own kindred!

Teachers/Parents/All Readers, this is an EXCELLENT read!!

Outstanding!! After teaching for 33 years, it still warms my heart to come across a new book, written for young adults, which will engage both male and female readers equally. I loved the character development, the visuals the author painted for the reader as well as the excellent plot development and twists. When reading I love to be drawn in within the first several pages and Mr. Sullivan was able to grab my full attention which, to me, translates to an excellent read! I highly recommend this book for all young adult readers but why stop there, I believe all readers will enjoy The Orphans. I have encouraged my teacher friends to read and purchase this book for their classroom libraries. I can’t wait for the second book in the Trilogy.

While admittedly not a book I would typically seek out, the Orphans delivered a great story full of witty dialogue, unexpected plot twists and an overall enjoyable story. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun read that is hard to put down. It definitely leaves you wanting more, can't wait for book 2!

What starts off as a small and powerful story of a young teen losing his parents slowly twists into an epic fantasy with the fate of the world (and heaven and hell) at stake. Matthew Sullivan's "Orphans" is a gripping and dynamic story of loss and rebirth that works both as an entertaining YA novel and an allegorical roadmap for teens trying to find themselves in the real world.

I highly recommend this book and would not be surprised to see it on the big screen sometime soon!

Not worth your time...dull, dull, dull

Silly reworking of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre by an authoress not even old enough to have had erotic experiences yet; not even worth the time to finish, as there are better erotic treatments of this novel out there (like An English Education, long ago published by Blue Moon Books, which I read parts of again just to get the taste of this work out of my mouth). The only positive point about this work is that it was bought for for me at Book People (independent book store--what a rebel!) in Austin. The cover was the best part of the book...

(Please note that I am a person who found the Jane Austen reworkings [Pride & Prejudice & Zombies; Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters; etc] rather entertaining, although I am generally a modern-day bluestocking with a strong historical bent who finishes at least a book a week.)
