Simple Prose, Complicated Themes, Brilliant Novel

To keep things brief, this is not a novel for the average reader. This is a violent, darkly sexual, experimental novel split into a series of extremely short vignettes connected by story but more importantly by theme.
I loved this book.

The book is good, full of twisted scenes and strange dialogues.
What is terrible is the quality of the ebook conversion, probably made with OCR.
A lot of missing full stops, wrong words (i.e. "real" becomes "red"), and even asterisks when there shouldn't be.
You better buy the paperback version...

Great Information - Up to Date (as of 2013)

The problem with books on Youtube and digital media is that this industry changes so fast that the information could be out of date before the book is even published. This book has enough evergreen topics that it makes sense for now at least.

There are plenty of real life examples from top Youtube web series creators and Youtube stars. You get to read interviews from people that have created totally different web series, not just scripted of vlogs.

There isn't much information about getting the production down, so if you are going to try and some high production value, you might want a book on budgeting and scheduling productions.

It would help if there was a supplemental website for anybody who bought the book with more resources or a blog of updates and trends.

A little too basic for what I was looking for. But the interviews etc were a nice read. I was hoping to find more info on genre studies for web series, and even more detailed info on marketing and Promotion. The book just skims over these essential details.
It says allot money for marketing. Does not say how to go about it.

beautiful book but has some annoying issues

I wanted to give this book a 5 star rating, however, there are some very annoying publication issues with it that prevented it from getting the 5 stars.

I've been wanting to get the original Alla Prima but was holding off because of the price. Then I found Alla Prima II and it was supposed to have all the original stuff plus more, and the price was more in my budget. Since I have not had the privilege of seeing the original, I cannot compare it to this one. My first impression when I opened the box was it was a beautiful book and I couldn't wait to start reading it. I've only gotten about 70 pages read so far, and I am very happy with the content, it's well written and informative. I've already gained knowledge in being able to isolate a problem area and how to dissect it to find a fix. I can't wait to get through the rest of the book.

now the annoying part ... there are typos in the text that show poor proofing prior to publication. It certainly doesn't take away from the content of the text, you can still understand the intent of the sentence. For me though, I find it very annoying to see it in an otherwise beautiful, fairly expensive, book.

***Update - I contacted the press and heard back from them, they tell me they have had the book re-edited and the 2nd run of printing (in progress now) will have the majority of the typos fixed. So if it will bother you as much as me, you may want to find out which printing you are purchasing before ordering.

I am Not Worthy

I am not worthy to critique Richard Schmid's work nor his writing.
Am brand new to painting, in fact I went out and purchased paints after I had read this book.
If nothing else, READ Chapter 8, then do the color pallets. It will blow your mind if you are new to this artistic form.
I wish I lived next door to Mr. Schmid. He would probably put up a barbed wire fence and buy a guard dog to keep me from bothering him.

excellent expose'

Kramer's lucid writing style is refreshing.This small volume will give the reader a critical review of Freud's major writings. Highlights of Freud's biography add spice to the narrative. Kramer uses our contemporary knowledge in psychiatry to rediagnose some of Freud's patients.I got a deeper understanding of some of the famous cases like Anna O,Dora, the Wolf Man the Rat Man. Like many, Kramer agrees that Freuds impact on the development of the field of psychotherapy and psychological thinking have been hugh. Freud was not perfect.This book help highlight the imperfections. More than that,it helps clarify in a short space, work that took Freud years and years to develop and 23 volumes of the Standard edition to Express.Like Freud,Kramer is a very talented writer as this and his other four volumes show.

Short, readable, objective

This is an excellent, objective, and readable evaluation of the work and legacy of Sigmund Freud. Those who put this in the "Freud bashing" category appear not to desire an objective evaluation of Freud as a clinician nor as a scientist: Kramer presents the reader with such in a lively and precise way. He also presents the impact that Freud's ideas had on Western culture, and it is here where the impact of Freud is beyond question. Whether this impact has been for ill or good is open to question, speaking generally or more specifically in psychiatric and psychological science.

Pay no attention to the man behind the Oedipal curtain

Having just done a refresher on Freud's psychoanalytic theories, I thought it might be worthwhile to pick up a biography for a peek at the man behind the Oepidal curtain. I admit without shame that I chose this one off the shelf for its brevity, as I wasn't sure my passing interest would sustain me through a more exhaustive treatment. By sheer chance, Freud: Inventor of the Modern Mind turned out to be just what I was looking for - a quickly paced yet thorough synopsis of Freud's life paired with an examination of the most popular of his theories.

As I'm a bit disinclined to the Freudian approach, it was quite lovely to watch Kramer call bulls*** on case study after case study and to expose Freud's utter lack of scientific rigour. In fact, based on the historical context provided by the author (which described how treatment of the mentally ill had started, before Freud became a fad, to focus on possible hereditary influences exacerbated by environmental factors), I got the very strong impression that Freud and his sexual hangups actually managed to set psychology back about fifty years.

Kramer is careful, however, to give the devil his due, and cites the most lasting of his influences, including his popularization of such now-common terms as 'projection' and 'identification.' He also credits Freud with something that's inarguable - a sheer, breath-taking scope of vision. Whether you buy into that vision or think it's utter crap, it's hard not to be at least a little impressed by the man who dared to dream it up.
